Homework

Third graders will have a take home folder that they will be responsible for bringing it home/school each day. 

Mathematics

Students will have math homework 3 days a week T-Th. Please note some days we will not have homework if we are doing an interactive lesson or assessing. Students should be able to complete the homework with minimal assistance. Please let me know if there are questions or concerns. 

Literacy

Third graders should be reading for at least 20 minutes each night. They should read silently, out loud and listen to others read. Writing is also very important and I highly encourage students to write at home. Check out these writing topics for more ideas.

Learning Videos

Literacy

Here at Little Canada we use Literacy By Design for whole group reading, writing and small group guided reading. We also monitor indivual reading growth using the University of Minnesota FAST assessments and PRESS interventions during our 'WIN' (what I need) daily small groups.

Writing

In third grade we use the writing process to create opinion, narratives and informative pieces in writing. 

This year we will be writing in our portfolios and using writing groups to help us learn how to edit and provide feedback to each other. 

Mathematics

We are very excited to be in our second year of our implementation of our new math curriculum: My Math. This will include whole group math, guided math groups, problem solving and weekly basic facts camp.

Science

We use FOSS science here at Little Canada. In 3rd grade we get to do three exciting units: Structures of Life, Physics of Sound and Measurement. 

Social Studies

This year in third grade we will be learning about Our Community and Beyond through the teacher created TCI curriculum. 

Health

In third grade we learn health through our monthly Great Body Shop magazines and lessons.
